Hello! Halla! Hai! Welcome to the writing blog of Johanna, a grade 12 student at Scarborough’s very own Newman and who should probably not be talking about herself in the third person. Even on the internet, it seems a little vain.
Let me tell you a little about myself.
When I was younger, my least favourite days of school would be when we had a substitute teacher in class, because that would mean - unless we had the same sub as last time - that I would have to go through the embarrassment of saying “sorry miss, it’s pronounced joe-hanna” and them apologizing, and never saying my name right ever again. Such is life, I suppose.
Over time, I’ve considered changing my name, or at least what people call me. At Starbucks, when I order pizza and with my old employer, I go by Jo. Sometimes, I make myself look edgy when I’m online and put a hypen between the Jo and the Hanna, becoming Jo-Hanna, the full of herself narcissist. Sometimes I put a space and add an “e”, becoming Joe Hanna, an idea inspired by my friend who is legally named Jel Aera, space and all (hipster vegan Joe Hanna has only ever made an appearance once, and that was to comment on a comment on reddit.)
This blog is a little look into myself. The most frequent type of post will be what is called the “Open Letter Series”, inspired by John Green, author, YouTuber, podcaster and overall content creator. I use the open letter series to express an idea, get a point across or to tell a joke. For the most part, each open letter is about something different, except for the ones on Wes Anderson’s 2014 The Grand Budapest Hotel and the series on the History Of Japan, which is literally just the History of Japan.
Aside from what I do in writing, my goal is to one day be able to teach ESL or English internationally and to live in a cute condo by myslef one day where I can project movies onto a wall. Hell, I want to do that now but I don’t have a free white wall in my house to do it on…. anyway….
My favourite thing to say to people is that I don’t know something about something else and become totally confident in my answer. I love listening to Queen and Earth Wind and Fire as much as possible. I am the ruler of spelling mistakes, but not grammar and I am totally in love with Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel, as you will see throughout this blog. I prioritize my friends and love to know what they’re up to, and have a pretty bad fear of missing out if I don’t get envolved.
This is me! Feel free to AMA and have a great day!
